Wine picks
The Edmonton Journal Published: Wednesday, October 01
Luigi Bosca Malbec Reserva, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina, 2005, $23. Memorable, elegant, full-bodied wine with layers of coffee, berries, pepper and fig on the nose. On the palate, cocoa and dark licorice framed in soft, sweet tannins. Aged 12 months in French barriques. Cellaring into 2010 will bring rewards. Will pair beautifully with roast or grilled red meat, venison and strong, pungent cheese.

Luigi Bosca Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2005 For an equally elegant red, try this cabernet sauvignon ($18; www.luigibosca.com.ar). The Arizu family emigrated from Spain in the 19th century and has been making wines in Argentina for more than a century. The experience shows in this graceful cabernet from Mendoza. Catena Chardonnay 2006 This chardonnay ($18; www.catenawines.com) is from high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina. Delicately oaked and golden in color, it has lemon, apricot and tropical-fruit flavors.
